Archimedes

Archimedes World is a project initiated and commissioned by Nea Paideia AI Lab in Athens, Greece as part of their Archimedes Eco-System project. Designed and built by Salty Sharks Aquatic Metaverse, this innovative approach to immersive virtual world education resources demonstrates our growing expertise and capability to deliver rich, high quality, interactive virtual worlds accessible across any VR headset and via browser on PC / MAC with no loss of functionality or immersion.

Archimedes Exhibit

Learn

Travel back in time to ancient Syracuse, the birthplace and home of Archimedes. From the Hall of Wonders Lobby, you can talk directly to the AI Chatbot - Archimedes (in Greek or English) via voice or text to learn from the master himself. Students can ask questions about his famous experiments, ancient Greece or his own background and studies. From there, take the portals to the Eureka Bath House where Archimedes discovered buoyancy and take part in the Gold Crown Experiment yourself. Test the material properties and buoyancy of different metals and then the crown itself. Travel to the fields outside Syracuse where Archimedes demonstrates the innovative Archimedes Screw (a concept still in use today in many different fields). Take control of the experiment by assembling the screw yourself and watching the effects.

Experience

At each location, work with the interactive experiments, engage with Archimedes directly, and test your knowledge with interactive assessments (in either Greek or English). Finally explore the ancient marketplace of Syracuse, learn about other experiments and inventions from the great scientist and start special projects of your own with your classmates.

Play

If you enter this virtual world via web browser on PC, use your left mouse button to interact or grab items, and hold the right mouse button down to pan the camera around as you move the mouse. You can also use the standard W, A, S, D keys to move your avatar. Be sure to allow access to your microphone so you can talk to other players and specifically to talk to Archimedes. On VR Headset, navigate to our website and the Saltyverse in your headset browser, click the Archimedes Virtual World tile and select "VR". It is that simple and easy. When exploring as a class, be sure to create a private room code before entering the world (at avatar selection screen) and share this code with your students so your instance of the world is kept private just for your class. Once created and shared, students just need to enter the private room code in the field and then enter / join the world.
